ABOUT Blue Sabaku Guest Farm, Kapmuts

“Some places aren’t just destinations — they’re invitations to breathe,
to slow down and to come home to yourself.”

Blue Sabaku Guest Farm began as a quiet vision, a dream that crossed continents and took root under the vast skies of the Cape Winelands. Owners Gertjan and Mireille found something deeply grounding in the South African landscape: a place where time slows, beauty is everywhere and life feels simpler.

The name Blue Sabaku holds a story rich with heritage and meaning. “Sabaku” is the Surinamese word for the little heron, the national bird of Suriname, where Mireille’s family originally comes from. The word “Blue” is a nod to the farm’s history, previously known as Blue Mountain Bird Farm, once home to a collection of exotic birds bred by the former owners.

Today, Blue Sabuku Guest Farm is lovingly managed by Gideon and Merle, who ensure every guest feels warmly welcomed and well cared for. The estate features three thoughtfully designed cottages – the Green Cottage, the Blue Cottage and the Yellow Cottage, each blending harmoniously with the natural surroundings. Their names pay quiet tribute to the colourful birdlife that still frequents the area.

Whether you come for the wine, the wide-open skies, or the stillness of the farm, we hope Blue Sabaku becomes a place you return to, again and again.
